Is a Midwifery placement abroad right for me?
Our Midwifery internships are a great fit for people pursuing a career in midwifery. You can join as a student or as a graduate looking for a new challenge in a different environment. We have Midwifery placements abroad to suit all skill levels, whether you’re just starting out or want to further your career.
Our internships offer you the opportunity to gain midwifery work experience abroad by learning directly from local professionals. This is a fantastic way to give your CV an extra edge and help you stand out from other candidates. It can also enhance your study or job applications.
During your time abroad, you’ll be supported by a medical supervisor as well as Projects Abroad staff. Many of our interns don’t have previous experience in their chosen field, so you can start at a level you’re comfortable with.
In most cases, you’ll also be able to take part in outreach work in the local community and give back while you learn.
For midwifery students, our Midwifery Electives are another great option. If you’re looking for more practical work that tackles community health issues, our Public Health internship may be a better fit. Read our full list of projects for internships abroad.
What will I gain from a Midwifery internship abroad?
Our Midwifery placements abroad give you the opportunity to gain international medical experience in a developing country.
Some of the benefits that our previous interns have talked about include:
- Experience with diseases and conditions affecting mothers and newborns that you might not see in your home country
- Soft skills such as communication, leadership, time-management, resilience, organisation, and teamwork
- More in-depth work experience than you might receive back home
- Developing a global mindset as you learn from and work with people of different cultures and backgrounds
- Increased confidence as you broaden your horizons
All of the above will also enhance your CV, UCAS applications, and your personal development.
How are Projects Abroad’s Midwifery internships different?
At Projects Abroad, our first aim is to benefit the communities we work in. You can be assured that your internship is ethical, well supported, and part of a better future. Here’s just a few elements of our work that set it apart from other internship programmes:
Recording our work in a secure database
We created a Global Impact Database so we can track the positive impact our projects have. This is a secure and anonymous database that we use to identify specific areas of need. It allows us to use data to shape medical outreaches and health awareness programmes. We can also monitor individuals we see often, report our results and collect data for research. All of this work is guided by our Management Plans.
Real work with trained professionals
On our internships, you’ll work alongside real healthcare professionals. You can observe them in their everyday work, ask questions, and hear more about their experiences. You’re likely to get more insights into the frontline of medical care than in your home country.
A tailored approach
We are often able to tailor your internship to your interests. You can work in more than one department or focus on one particular area, or experience outreach work in the local community.
Our Medicine & Healthcare policy
We take the safety of our volunteers, interns, and the people they work with very seriously. That’s why we’ve put in place a comprehensive Medical Ethics Policy.
